Dulcimer tuning in the classroom

Does anyone have suggestions for tuning students' dulcimers in the music classroom? I have about 15 dulcimers and would like to use them in my music classes, but finding the time to tune all of them before class is often difficult. As a result, the instruments spend too much time collecting dust and not enough time being played by the children. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks! |

The first time's the hardest. The first couple of times you tune a dulcimer, the strings stretch or slip or something. But after tuning them a few times, they will be inclined to stay in tune. Also, as difficult as this will be at first, I sure hope you will be able to teach the children to tune their own instruments, which can be done as a fun group activity. It's a huge part of their musical training! |
