Some players have difficulty keeping a dulcimer in place on their lap (young, old, disabled). Lois Hornbostel suggests using a sheet of Sta Puff (designed for your clothes drier) on the lap to reduce slipperyness. Others have made a cloth belt that goes behind the player and attaches to both ends of the dulcimer. I prefer having 2nd graders kneel on the floor and put the dulcimer on a chair. Students in grades 3-6 do well standing over dulcimers placed on their desks. Any other ideas? Last Edited David on Jul 03, 2005 2:13 PM

I have used a non-adhesive drawer liner made by DUCK. It comes on a roll about 10 feet long. I cut pieces 18 inches to lay on your lap. It grips your clothing and the instrument. This product can be found in the kitchen drawer liner area of a general department store. |

We put them on the floor, and sit in front of them, cross legged. |
